Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to distinguish the communication benefits, preferences, and barriers to the phone, email, and Zoom and to practice writing skills. You will do this through interviews with other people, either friends, family, or co-workers.
Instructions
For this assignment, you will need to interview three of your friends and/or colleagues at work. Ask them the following questions:
- When you think of a work situation, what is your preferred method of communication - a phone call, email, or Zoom? (Do not allow "texts" as an answer - this exercise is about the other three.)
- Why is that your preference? (probe for benefits, barriers to the others, etc.)
- How would your preference change for personal situations? (Now they can say text message, Face Time, phone, etc.)
After getting the answers, summarize them in a one page document. Then follow that with any insights learned about phone, email, and Zoom communication. Because part of communication is also writing, two points are related to grammar, punctuation, and spelling. The rubric asks you to "follow basic writing guidelines". If you are not sure what that means, here is an article that can help: 11 Writing Rules: Common mistakes and fixes
Submit your answers by copying and pasting into the text box or uploading the Word document. If in Word, be sure your name, course number, and assignment name is on the document.
