Data analysis of farmers market
Post ID: 3007653
- Market Selection: Choose a local farmer's market to study.
- Product Selection: Select at least ten types of products to compare. These should be common items sold by multiple vendors. For example, tomatoes, strawberries, oranges, eggs and leafy greens.
- Data Collection: Visit the farmer's market and collect the following information:
- List the prices of the selected products from at least five different vendors.
- Note any differences in the quality or presentation of these products.
- Record the number of vendors selling the same product.
- Observe and note if any vendor prominently dominates the market in terms of sales or customer traffic.
- Analysis:
- Compare the prices of the products across different vendors. Are the prices similar or different? Explain why this might be the case.
- Assess whether the products are truly homogeneous (identical to each other) or if there are variations that could influence buyer choice.
- Evaluate the ease of entry and exit into the market for vendors. Consider any regulations, fees, or other barriers that could affect this.
- Discuss the availability of information for both buyers and sellers. Do consumers have access to information about product sourcing, quality, and price? Do vendors have access to information about competitors and market demand?
- Perfect Competition Assessment: Based on your observations and analysis, assess the degree to which the farmer's market aligns with the model of perfect competition. Address each characteristic of perfect competition and provide examples or arguments for how well the market meets that criterion.
- Reflection: Reflect on any observed deviations from perfect competition. Consider what factors may cause these deviations and whether they significantly impact the efficiency of the market.
Deliverables:
- A written report that includes your data, analysis, assessments, and reflection. Paper should be written in Times New Roman, 12 font, double space, paragraphs indented, subheadings provided, a cover and reference page.
- Visual aids (such as charts or tables) that help compare the prices and illustrate your findings. Include pictures of products to proof that you went to the farmers market
Evaluation Criteria:
- Accuracy of data collected.
- Depth and clarity of market analysis.
- Understanding of perfect competition characteristics.
- Quality of arguments and examples used in the assessment.
- Visuals to verify visit and types of products
- Reflection on deviations from perfect competition and their implications.
