Overview
The topic of the proposal is present bias and its impact on credit card debt.
As an assessment of students’ understanding of the theories and the applications in behavioral economics and finance, this course requires students to collaborate and write a project proposal to critically analyze a current behavioral issue that potentially has a significant economic impact. For scholarly references, groups may use resources in journals, books, newspapers, or on the internet.
- T.he framework of the proposal should include the following components:
- Topic and Motivation: clearly specify the topic of interest and address what motivates you to choose this topic;
- Theoretical Background: describe the theoretical development in the chosen topic (compare behavioral or cognitive theory with its counterpart, i.e. rational choice theory);
- Current findings: provide empirical, experimental, or survey evidence in the chosen topic;
- Research hypothesis and methodology: clearly state the research hypothesis and propose a procedure of collecting and analyzing the data;
- Economic/policy implication: discuss the potential economic impact of your research on the decision making of individuals or institutions, and policy implications, if any.
- References: list all the cited resources, including the titles, name(s) of author(s), names of sources (journals, books, newspapers, websites, etc.), and page numbers. Make sure that you give credit to all the cited work. Plagiarism results in a grade of zero and probably a dismissal from the program
