Assignment goal:

  1. Synthesize experiences of BIPOC in U.S. society over time.
  2. Create an overall argument about experience of BIPOC in the U.S.

Unit project 1 purpose:

--To examine BIPOC experiences in the U.S. as a whole, comparative/relational approach.

--To form an articulated opinion about how students view BIPOC experiences, especially looking for patterns, trends, differences.

--To take the materials you've already read along with this week's materials (pick and choose which are helpful) and make sense of BIPOC experiences

Step-by-step prompt directions:

  1. Create an argument of how you would describe BIPOC experiences (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color with People of Color being Chicanx/Latinx and Asian American) SOLELY based on course materials.**Please note: It might be easier to do step 2 first and then using that information from step 2 to create the argument as described in this #1.
  2. Choose at least 3 key points and write a paragraph for each point.**REMEMBER: Be sure to include all 4 groups. They do not have to fit into each point (i.e. a point can be about Chicanx/Latinx and Asian American and a point can be about Black and Native American, for example). Be sure to provide SPECIFIC examples from course materials and cite them. Then explain your examples by dissecting the examples and talking about it's significance: what does the example given mean? Why is it important, why does it matter? How does it relate to the point you are making in your paragraph and in your paper overall?
  3. Then, find or create a visual representation of your writing. It can be an image, a collage, drawing, or symbols. Please explain why you chose this visual representation and what it means.
