Your high school Economics and Personal Finance class is going so well that your younger sibling’s 8th-grade teacher has asked you to come to do a presentation on personal finance to his social studies class. He thinks it is never too early to become good at managing money. He wants his students to get a head start.
Instructions
Prepare a presentation for a class of much younger students. Keeps things simple. Use your own words and common sense explanations. Don’t make it too fancy or technical as the 8th graders might not understand. Make sure you go over the key points with them and tell them what is important. This will help the younger students understand what is coming in the high school class. Follow the steps below to complete this assignment. You may use the Unit 3 Assignment: Banking, Credit and Investing template (44KB, PPT, opens in a new window).
Step 1: Presentation Format
You can use any form of presentation you want (Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Slides, etc.), as long as it is a file you can upload into your Moodle class. If you find it helpful, use the PowerPoint assignment template provided for you below. You can change the appearance and design of the presentation to make it look nice if you wish. Again, the information you share is the most important.
Step 2: Content
You will teach the younger kids the basics of the topics listed below. Place one topic on each slide. Remember, do not put too much information on the slides. You do not need to explain this in great detail. Just put a few of the most important points on each slide. Three points are ideal, but you can do a couple more if needed.
- What are the important things to consider when choosing a bank or credit union?
- What are the differences between debit and credit cards? What are the advantages and disadvantages of credit cards and debit cards?
- What is credit? What are the 5 C’s of Credit for individual consumers?
- How do you get a good credit score?
- What are some good strategies for investment? Why is investing important? What are some good examples of where to invest money?
