Overview
WEEK 1
your will analyze real-world pricing strategies, calculate demand
elasticity, and participate in a pricing simulation based on a selected case study. The goal is to
understand how price elasticity affects business decisions and revenue outcomes.
Instructions:
1. Case Study Analysis – find and read a case study on Uber's surge pricing,
Amazon's pricing algorithms, or airline ticket fluctuations. Make sure that you include a
link to the case study in your team submission.
2. Demand Elasticity Calculation:
○ Ensure your chosen case study provides information on price and quantity data for
a product. Using the information from your chosen case study, collaborate as a
team to calculate price elasticity of demand for the product.
○ Based on your calculation, determine whether the demand for the product
is elastic, inelastic, or unitary and briefly explain why.
3. Simulation Exercise:
○ Based on your case study, assign different business roles to each team member
(e.g., retailer, airline manager, ride-sharing executive, market analyst, consumer
advocate).
○ From the perspective of your assigned roles and information found in your chosen
case study, work together to adjust pricing in response to market demand and
competitor behavior in a collaborative spreadsheet model (either of your team's
creation or one that you find online).
4. Team Reflection (600-800 words & APA-formatted) (Base your answers on the
information found in your chosen case study.):
○ Collectively summarize the pricing strategy decisions made by the team.
○ Discuss how elasticity impacts pricing strategy and revenue, incorporating
perspectives from each role
○ Identify any unintended consequences or ethical concerns, with
contributing insights from their assigned role's perspective.
Include the demand elasticity calculation, simulation exercise, and team reflection in your
submission.
Submission Requirements:
● The demand elasticity calculation
● Your simulation model or summary
● The team reflection (600-800 words in APA format with at least 5 references)
WEEK 2
Enter a hypothetical business scenario (e.g., opening a coffee shop) into
QuickBooks (or Wave, FreshBooks, Excel, Google Sheets).
○ Record startup costs, ongoing expenses, and project profitability.
3. Write-Up (300-400 words):
○ Compare fixed vs. variable costs in the scenario.
○ Explain how cost structures impact pricing decisions.
○ Reflect on how automation tools aid managerial decision-making.
Include screenshots of your hands-on practice and the written write-up in your APA-formatted
submission.
