Students will demonstrate their mastery of statistical analysis by summarizing an influential piece of empirical research in economics and find three related empirical research articles. For this assignment, students will prepare an oral presentation on the following scholarly article:

Guidelines
The presentation should include a complete summary of the assigned scholarly article that includes an overview of the research question, the data used, the empirical method, the main results, and at least one unanswered question identified by the author with a direct quote for this question. It should also have a discussion of three additional scholarly sources that are related to the assigned article in the following ways:
- Find a related scholarly article in any discipline outside of economics that addresses a similar research question. Compare and contrast the economic approach to the non-economic approach to research on this topic.
- Find related scholarly article in economics that uses the same empirical method but addresses a different research question. Discuss how the same method is used to address a different question in each study.
- Find a related article in an economics journal published after this article that directly address an unanswered question. Explain how the unanswered question is answered in the newer article .
For the related articles, your presentation does not need to do a full summary of each article you have found, it only needs to address the prompts listed above.
Students will be evaluated on the accuracy and completeness of their oral presentation, the relevance of the related articles, and the quality of the sources used.
Other tips:
- The presentation should be at least 8 minutes in length but no longer than 15 minutes.
- Students will submit a file or link to a recording as well as a file with the presentation slides. For larger files, it is best to share your files through a cloud storage system like OneDrive.
- The presentation slides should include in-text citations on the slides and a works-cited page as a separate slide. Links should provided to find all cited sources. If additional sources are used such as a chatbot or generative AI, the original prompt and output must be retained and supplied as a separate file and in-text citations should note where information was used from this tool. Direct quotes from a chatbot or generative AI program are not permitted.
- The presentation should make references to appropriate tables and/or figures from the assigned article in their summary.
