Question 1
Figures 1 (a) & (b) show a statically determinate beam under distributed loading conditions; determine (1) the resultant of the distributed load; (2) the magnitude and direction of the reactions at supports A and B.
Question 2. The uniformly distributed loaded composite steel beam is shown in Figure 2(a). The steel composite sections consist of two steel plate 230×20 mm and a universal beam section 610UB125 are bolted together to form the composite section as shown in Figure 2(b). The 16 mm diameter bolts are spaced longitudinally every 150 mm. The 610UB125 sectional properties are given in Figure 3(c) and Table 1 The modulus of elasticity for steel is 200 GPa.
a) Plot shear force and bending moment diagrams;
b) Calculate the maximum bending moment and shear force;
c) Calculate the 2 nd moment of inertia of the beam with respect x axis.
Question 3. A Channel section 300PFC and a universal beam section 640UB125 are welded together to form the composite section as shown in Figure 3 (a). The individual sectional properties are given in Figure 3 (b) and (c) where x o ' and y o ' indicate centroidal axes. Compute the moment of inertia (I x and I y ) and the radius of gyration (r x and r y ) with respect to the centroidal axis of the composite section. Make sure the correct units are used in all answers.
