Overview
TPM is a production driven improvement methodology that enhance the equipment reliability and ensure effectual management of plant assets using employee involvement and empowerment, by linking maintenance, manufacturing and engineering functions. The main goal of the TPM program is to improve productivity by reducing downtime. Improving OEE through TPM is often done by forming small, multidisciplinary teams to address core areas such as preventive and autonomous maintenance, training employees who operate machinery, and the security and standardization of work processes. Total productive maintenance focuses on the efficient and effective use of the means of production, meaning all departments should be involved. These small teams work together to increase productivity and decrease downtime through equipment reliability. Select a suitable industrial or commercial example in a production/manufacturing industry/business organization to implement TPM process. Develop a template for a TPM program. The TPM program should cover the key areas of:
? Introduction and inception of TPM.
? The process of focused improvement (FI).
? 5S (CANDO).
? Autonomous maintenance (AM).
? Planned maintenance (PM).
Cover the key aspects of each section, justify what parts of each section you would employ in the program and subsequently rationalise what the required outputs from each process would be. Discuss how you would gauge the success of such a program in both tangible and intangible outputs, for example with the machines, manpower, methods and materials directly and indirectly involved with TPM activities. Ensure that in at least one of the key sections you give a worked example of one of the maintenance techniques, such as:
? Why-why.
? PM analysis.
? Fishbone analysis or another technique you have researched.
