Networked data acquisition system
Introduction
A pneumatic conveying test rig has six legacy sensors as specified on the data sheet
below measuring pressure, temperature and hopper weight.
The data acquisition system is a rack based system which communicates with a PC over
a serial link. The PC is not networked.
It is planned to update the system to allow remote access to the data acquisition system
and the following is considered:
Replacement of the legacy sensors by SMART sensors and the implementation of a
digital solution which may be any of the existing fieldbus standards.
Investigate the replacement of the sensors by SMART sensors and design a suitable
data acquisition and communication system identifying the necessary components.
Outline the features of the system and give the reasons for your choice of solution.
