Overview
The final project represents the application of all previously discussed concepts architectural engineering concepts regarding site and case study analysis, form and space design, layout and context… etc.
Students are required to design a small winter chalet or guest house attached to small palace, the proposed chalet space is about 60-80 m2, the students are required to select a location within the UAE and define a design theme and conceptualization that respond to the listed design requirements and promote sustainability in the use of high technology and recycled materials.
The Project is divided to four parts as follows:
Part I: Site selection and analysis
Part II: Case study analysis
Part III: Design Concept, Architectural drawings to scale: Plan, Two Sections, Four Elevations, 3D Revit images.
Part IV: Study and draw the kitchen and bathroom units in the designed project using the standard codes.
Program:
- 1 or 2 bedrooms (including one master bedroom) each of area 20 to 25 m2
- 1 or 2Toilets each of area 4 to 6 m2
- Entrance 3 to 4 m2
- Dining room12-16 m2
- Living room12-16 m2
- Kitchen 6-9 m2
- Terrace
Part I [15 points]: Site Analysis
Site Analysis: the site analysis includes different scales (city, district, neighborhood, site). At the site scale the followings must be identified:
- Accessibility,
- Orientation and Climate analysis,
- Urban Context, surrounding buildings,
- Viability, connections and views (on site/Off site)
- Green areas, landscape, contour etc.
Part II [15 points]: Case Study Analysis
Each student is supposed to choose a case study to analyze as per the listed criteria. Check and choose from Archdaily Website:
- Project info:
- Owner, designer, area
- Location map, site plan, accessibility
- Design intent, concept
- Functional relationships and spatial organization:
- Highlighted plans with: Entrances, circulation, private zone, semi private zone
- Design Issues
- Study Elevations, the exterior and interior images of the project
- Structural System
- Study the project building Sections, details and exterior images
- Lesson Learned: issues that you want to consider in your design
Part III [45 points]: Design Requirements
In the design process, the student has to develop a set of architectural drawings and a physical study model. The student will also, use REVIT to study, evaluate and develop a 3D architectural composition and produce 3D views. The design has to consider the following issues:
Hand Sketches
- Inspirational details,
- Volume development (isometric or perspective)
- Interior details
- Functional Diagram
- Study of materials, color and textures.
Architectural Drawings
1. Layout scale 1:200
2. Ground Floor Plan scale 1:50
3. Entrance elevation scale 1:50
4. Side elevation scale 1:50
5. 2 Sections scale 1:50
6. Interior or Exterior perspective or isometric
7. Model scale 1:50
