Guidelines for Paper Review and Reflection (Tasks)

1. Paper Summary (Approx. 300-400 words) • Provide a concise overview of the research paper. • Include the following elements: o Research Problem: What issue or gap in sustainable engineering does the paper address? o Objectives: What are the main goals of the study? o Methods: Briefly describe the methodology used (e.g., experimental, theoretical, case study, etc.). o Key Findings: Summarize the most important results or conclusions. o Relevance: Explain how the paper contributes to the field of sustainable engineering.

2. Critical Analysis (Approx. 400-500 words) • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the paper. Consider the following: o Clarity and Organization: Is the paper well-structured and easy to follow? What are the issues in this regard? o Methodology: Are the methods appropriate and robust for addressing the research question? o Data and Evidence: Are the data sources credible, and is the analysis sound? o Innovation: Does the paper offer novel insights or approaches to sustainable engineering? o Limitations: Are there any limitations or biases in the study? o Implications: How significant are the findings for sustainable engineering practice or policy?

3. LCA/Sustainability Tools (Approx. 300-1000 words) • Tool Application: How were LCA/carbon footprint/sustainability metrics used? • Effectiveness: Did the tools address the research problem? • Gaps: Missing metrics or flawed assumptions?

4. Systems Thinking (Approx. 300-400 words) • System Boundaries: How were engineering systems (e.g., energy, waste) framed? • Interdisciplinary Impacts: Social, economic, and environmental trade-offs. • Scalability: Can solutions be applied broadly?

5. Reflection and Future Work (Approx. 300-400 words) o Course Links: Connect to lectures (e.g., SDGs, circular economy). o Personal Insights: How did the paper change your perspective? o Future Research: Propose a study to address gaps (methods, impacts). "Imagine you are designing a research project inspired by the paper you reviewed. What would your research question be? How would you address the gaps or limitations in the paper? What methods would you use, and what impact would you hope to achieve? Use this section to brainstorm and propose your ideas." Based on the paper’s findings and limitations, propose ideas for future research in sustainable engineering

6. Formatting and Clarity • Structure: Headings for each section. • Citations: Proper references (APA/IEEE). • Grammar/Flow: Professional writing. • Include the paper’s title, authors, and publication details at the beginning of your review. • Word count: Approximately 1,000-1,300 words total (combined for all sections). • Submit as a single document with clear headings for each section (Summary, Critical Analysis, Reflection, and Insights/Future Work). • For the writing body, use Times New Roman, font size 12, single space, and Normal Margins. • For titles, use Times New Roman, font size 14, and Bold.
