Overview
- Review the dimensions of the collision box and ramp.
- Measure all angles, distances, and surfaces (friction, slope, etc.).
- Know the positions of cue and scoring balls, and pocket.
- Choose the best ball arrangement and sequence of collisions to drive the 8 ball into the pocket.
- Try different angles and impacts in simulations before executing.
For each shot attempt:
- Draw a top-down diagram of the table.
- Apply conservation of momentum to each collision.
- Use Impact calculations (Central Impact or Oblique Impact).
- Use all dynamic related formulas to thoroughly solve.
- Calculate angles using trigonometry and vector projections.
- Initial velocities.
- Post-collision directions and speeds.
- Use kinematic equations for each segment.
- Carefully replicate your model with actual placement and force.
- Record shot performance for report comparison.
- Include assumptions, equations, diagrams, and data.
-
Justify approximations (e.g., neglecting spin or air resistance).
