Overview
The project in the Greenhouse Gas Emission Management course is an application of the material covered within that course. The student should carry out carbon accounting for an SME of their choice for which data is available. The organization can be on his side or his partners' side. Students are requested to work in groups. Four size groups. After selecting the appropriate entity, the team should do the following: -
- Write a briefing about the chosen organization
- Describe the activities and the units that comprise the organization of interest
- Describe the physical units and the emissions encountered at each site
- Determine the reporting period, e.g., one year, that your report will cover. Make sure you have enough data to cover the period of interest
- Describe the sources of emission and collect data
- Create an inventory for all the sources of emission (using Excel), this has to be shown as emission source, description, and how the data were collected
- Consolidate similar emissions in a separate table (another sheet)
- Show the conversion factors that will be used as an appendix in addition to the samples of data used.
- Calculate the CO2/CO2e emission levels and categorize under scopes 1, 2, and 3 (if possible)
- Based on the emissions levels reported, recommended actions for cutting emissions down. Ideas can be gained from the material in chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
- Point out any potential savings that could occur whenever your recommendations are taken into account
- Conclude
