Overview

PURPOSE:

Imagine you are an engineering manager with your own team of Engineers and Technical Workers. All students are to write and submit their own individual Job Design & Motivational Plan from their own point of view as an engineering manager supervising their own team of Engineers and Technical Workers. This Job Design & Motivational Plan will describe an ideal approach for designing jobs and motivating your team to achieve outstanding results. Your approach is to use ideas and tools studied in the course from your required textbooks and the many Theorists presented (you will want to pay close attention to the Theorist Presentations!!), as well as any other useful resources you find on your own. Students are to submit their fully completed and fully developed Job Design & Motivational Plan for Engineers and Technical Workers. This plan should be a complete description of your solution as an engineering manager and submitted as a report.

APA CITATION FORMAT: Please make sure to use APA Citation Format 7th Edition

TASKS:

1. Please submit a Microsoft Word document file of your fully developed Job Design & Motivational Plan in report-style format.
2. For the report, please use Calibri font, size 11.
3. The report should have page margins between 0.5 - 1.0 inches. Page margins on all sides should not exceed 1.0 inch.
4. The report must be at least three (3) pages double-spaced. This page minimum does NOT include the References.
5. Report should include the following components:
   1. Introduction
      • States what will be discussed and makes general comments on the topic:
      • Describe setting in which YOU will be the engineering manager of Engineers and Technical Workers - be sure to include specifics and any ASSUMPTIONS you need to make. It must be specific - what industry, what type of company, what will you be doing at your place of employment?
   2. Characteristics of the Engineers and Technical Workers
      • Describe the Specific Characteristics of the Engineers and Technical Workers that YOU will be managing in the future - citing references; must be specific to the industry they work in and job functions they will perform
   3. Job Design for Engineers and Technical Workers - citing references
      • Describe ideas/concepts that need to be considered when designing jobs for Engineers and Technical Workers that YOU will manage (specific type of engineers in specific type of industry)
      • Make sure to account for differences among individuals
   4. Motivators for Engineers and Technical Workers - citing references
      • Describe ideas/concepts for what might motivate Engineers and Technical Workers that YOU will manage (specific type of engineers in specific type of industry)
      • Make sure to account for differences among individuals
   5. Implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) - citing references
      • Describe ideas for how you will use AI in the job design and motivation of Engineers and Technical Workers that YOU will manage (specific type of engineers in specific type of industry)
      • Describe ideas for how you will use AI to be more productive yourself as a manager
   6. Detailed, comprehensive plan to provide the optimum job design and motivators to the Engineers and Technical Workers using ideas, facts, course materials, theories, etc. - citing references
      • You must use all of the theorists/theories you learned about during class from the other students' presentations and explain how they fit into your motivational plan. If a theory is not applicable in your engineering management situation, then you must explain why.
      • You must incorporate concepts with citations from BOTH of your required textbooks for this course in your plan.
      • You must incorporate concepts with citations from other useful resources you find on your own in your plan.
      • Make sure to account for differences among people
   7. Conclusion - summary of what has been written
   8. References on Job Design & Motivation of Engineers and Technical Workers (APA citation format 7th edition) - you must list at least ten (10) references; all use of Artificial Intelligence must be acknowledged, cited, and summarized.
