Chapter Feedback and Progress

Overall, the supervisor was very pleased with your progress, describing the work as "very good" and well-written.

  • Introduction and Methodology: Both chapters were considered strong and required minimal further work.
  • Literature Review (Chapter 2): While containing "a lot of good stuff," the supervisor suggested several refinements to move it from a "discussion of the topic" to a true "review of the literature":
    • Explicit Links: You should explicitly link the literature sections to your specific research objectives (e.g., by adding "Objective 1" in brackets).
    • Literature-Led Discussion: For key sources, you should describe what the studies were specifically about and what the authors found, rather than just using them as citations to support your own statements.
    • Detailed Analysis: Sources mentioned in your summary table should be discussed in detail earlier in the chapter body.
    • Technical Depth: Your identification of agreements, disagreements, and research gaps was noted as being "exactly what we want".
  • Word Count. The supervisor suggested a total target of 25,000 to 30,000 words, noting that 35,000 might be the upper limit before it becomes "writing too much". FOR ALL THE THESIS

Interview Planning (Phase 2)

You are currently preparing for semi-structured interviews with approximately eight participants, which you aim to complete by mid-July.

  • Question Structure: The supervisor liked your approach of using a basic section question followed by specific prompts and follow-up questions.
  • MBSE Experience: He suggested asking participants about their experience with MBSE at the very beginningof the interview. This helps set the stage and determines how much you need to prompt them on model-based topics later.
  • Participant Selection: You should identify during this first round of interviews which participants would be most valuable to return to for the validation phase later in the project.
