Overview
In Japan, general wastes such as municipal wastes have been treated by incineration. However, due to the problem of discharge of dioxins, a new incineration method was introduced to prevent the discharge of dioxins from incineration sites. Then, answer the following questions.
1) In Japan, more than 80% of municipal wastes are still treated by incineration. Describe the reason. 2) From which elements present in municipal wastes, are dioxins formed? Among the constituent elements of dioxins, answer the name or symbol of one element other than carbon C, hydrogen H, and oxygen O.
3) In the new incineration method which was introduced to prevent the discharge of dioxins, how are the
wastes treated? Describe briefly.
4) What are the merits using the incineration method which can prevent the discharge of dioxins? Write
down the two merits. (However, the merit not to discharge dioxins is excluded.)
