Overview
Conduct research to find an image of a food web showing the feeding relationships within an ecosystem anywhere in the world. Include the food web image into your post and answer the following questions.
- Identify any two connected species from your food web and describe their feeding relationship
- Imagine that the primary producer(s) from your food web experience a massive die-off, removing at least 50% of them from the ecosystem. Identify the primary producer(s) and predict the consequences from this event on the remaining species of your food web.
- Identify the decomposer(s) in your food web. If they are not shown, suggest an organism that likely plays a decomposer role.
- Biomagnification: Explain why a toxic chemical, such as mercury, can have a large effect on species in the higher trophic levels, such as fish-eating birds, when it is found in only small concentrations in the water of aquatic ecosystems.
- Describe how a food web can help ecologists study ecosystems.
Remember to include a link and citation for your food web image.
