Upload your .ppt file (YouTube tutorial hereLinks to an external site.) to Canvas. OR provide a link to your Google Slides. In the case of the Google Slides you need to allow people to see it without making changes, View only. See Google Slides.
This should match your actual in class presentation, so it has be be shorter than 20 minutes.
Rubric for slides:
Basic idea, hypothesis-conclusions 10 points
Outline the purpose of the article, reiterate your reason for selecting it (Assignment 1) and state the authors hypothesis. Then jump to the conclusions to show where this is going.
Terms and definitions 10 points
In your sides you should highlight text that needs defining and provide links embedded in the text. Your notes (comment section below for the presenter only) should have the definition. Focus only on terms that are important to the understanding of the above.
Graphics 10 points
These should be incorporated into your slides where appropriate. For example, in presenting a visual representation of quantitative data. A picture is worth a thousand words but don't go too far. ;-)
Structure 10 points
- Your slide show should have a flow to it that follows the structure of your comments more than the structure of the paper you are reviewing.
# of slides 10 points
This one is easy. Do you have the right number of slides to cover the paper? There is such a thing as too many and too few. The sweet spot is that they fill your time slot without going over or run you out of gas too early. Pace yourself beforehand as you practice. You have 20 minutes.
- Oral presentation 10 points
This is essentially your ability to be understood. It means avoiding “verbal crutches” such as “like” and “so” and “literally” and “ya know” and “I mean”. Try to anticipate what you are going to say next so that you don’t get lost and need to fill in with the crutches.
