The two developing nations I was going to be discussing is South Africa and Ukraine.
A big struggle for Ukraine is the ongoing war happening with Russia. "Since 2014, when Russia first annexed Crimea, Ukraine’s population has declined by over 10 million". (Bangeri, 2024). Along with the war, Ukraine was already seeing a decrease due to the low birth rates and rapidly aging countries. The war has caused economic and human losses. (Bangeri, 2024). I think it will be hard for Ukraine to experience death rates, however their birth rate has reached only one child per woman (Bangeri, 2024). However, Africas struggles includes regional conflicts, food insecurity and uncontrolled migration (Kanunnikova, 2024). Even with their demographic challenges, statistics show "Africa’s total population will increase to almost 2.5 billion, an impressive gain compared with 1.36 billion inhabitants in 2023." (Kanunnikova, 2024). To pair with the high birth rates, the death rates might be challenging due to terrorism, hunger, and poverty (Kanunnikova, 2024).
Per the article regarding Africa, it states, "In the region with the highest fertility rates, Africa, there is also no correlation between fertility and immigration rates. It does not appear, therefore, that at a country level international migration is acting as a population stabilizer" (Peri. 2020). "This is because lacking forward-looking policies, there is no clear channel through which aging societies, which become economically stagnant and less innovative and whose citizens are likely to fear international migrants for the change they bring, will attract more immigrants" (Peri 2020). Regarding Ukraine, due to the war immigration isn't much of an issue as people are even leaving, so this could further decrease the fertility rate.
Whereas Africas population is rapidly increasing, I think there can be discussions to seek help such as trade, however there should be no obligation to help. Something could be to give up materials in exchange for something that they need to help their population increase prosperously rather than having all those people to see them struggle. As for Ukraine, I think they already have help with other countries. Sending troops and aiding Ukraine helps decrease the number of deaths and allows the younger generation continue to grow.
