Solid Waste Management

Overview

Part I: The goals of toxicology are to identify the toxicities that chemicals produce and to determine the dose of the chemical that induces toxic effects.

Historically, animal research has been performed to determine the toxic dose and toxic effects of chemicals. As time has gone by and technology has improved, alternatives to animal testing have been developed to explore the toxicity of chemicals. Discuss the pros and cons of these testing models. Do you believe there would be situations where one model would be more favorable to be used than another? Explain your response.

Part II: Discuss how you dispose of solid waste. In your discussion, address the questions that follow. How often do you dispose of solid waste? Do you have curbside pickup? Do you recycle? If so, what materials do you recycle, and how often do you recycle? Is your recycling curbside or drop-off? If you do not recycle, why not? Do you use composting? Do you attempt to minimize your generation of waste? Why, or why not?
