In this assessment, you will be creating a narrated presentation that correlates the impact of an environmental challenge to changes in human activities. You will use AI to conduct some research for your presentation. Read the directions carefully to ensure you are using AI in the appropriate parts of the assessment.
Assessment Preparation
Review the following scenario: As an environmental scientist, you have been asked by the local middle school science teacher to create a narrated presentation for their class about a local environmental challenge, including current events related to the issue and how the issue can be improved by sustainable actions.
Select an AI tool (e.g., ChatGPT, Scribe, Claude) and use it to gather information for your presentation. Write prompts for AI to do the following:
- Identify a local, city-level environmental challenge. Be sure to ask the AI tool to provide the references it uses to develop the response.
- Identify 2 local news stories related to the environmental challenge, including references. (Alternatively, you may locate this information through internet searching, rather than the AI tool.)
Note: Be sure to save your prompts and the responses provided by AI because you will need them to complete your presentation and its appendix section.
Assessment Deliverable
Create a 10- to 15-slide presentation with voice narration for the middle school science class using the Presentations Project Template. Only use AI for the responses that you gathered in the Assessment Preparation section of the assignment; the rest of the presentation must be developed without using AI. Address the following in your presentation:
- Identify a local, city-level environmental challenge in Metro-Detroit.
- Identify 2 local news stories related to the environmental challenge.
- Explain why this challenge might be relevant to your audience of middle school students who are learning about environmental health.
- Recommend 2 sustainable actions the middle school students can do in response to this challenge to help.
- Explain how each of the 2 recommended sustainable actions supports environmental health.
- Add an appendix slide in which you describe the background research you completed. Include the following sections in the appendix:
- Identification of the Challenge:
- Identify the AI tool you used.
- Provide the prompt you wrote for the AI tool.
- Provide the AI response to the prompt, including the references AI used to develop the response.
- Local News Coverage:
- If you used an AI tool, identify the AI tool you used.
- Provide the prompt you wrote for the AI tool (if applicable).
- Provide the AI response to the prompt, including the references AI used to develop the response (if applicable).
- If you did not use an AI tool, include the references you located through internet searching.
- Include a reference slide containing the references provided by the AI tool and those you used when searching the internet.
