Rutgers university Concussion by Peter Landesman 2015 Movie Essay

Watch a movie and write a critique

1. Watch "Silkwood " or "Concussion" at this link: www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/eres/spr19/conwaya_37_575_338_90_template_spr19.html (Links to an external site.)

2. Write a critique - . There are lots of sites on the internet that explain how to write a good movie critique. A critique is like a review, but a review can be written by anyone and is a entirely subjective (in other words, it is all opinion). The writer of a critique has expertise about the subject (in our case, work health and safety) that they are considering. So you will be using the expertise you have gained this semester to critique a movie that addresses a work health and safety issue.

The critique should:

  • Use the lens (or perspective) of labor. Think back to the course content (the cases, concepts, principles and ideas presented in the assigned presentations, readings and videos) and incorporate some of them into your paper. This is how you will demonstrate your expertise.
  • Include one interesting fact that you discovered about the movie after doing some research. This requires a citation. For instance, was it a true story, was it controversial, did it have an impact on the health or safety problem ?
  • Provide proper attribution and citations for all ideas, thoughts or facts that are not your own. DO NOT just provide a citation at the end of your work - you must let your reader know where in your critique the attribution belongs!
  • Submit original work that is in your own words. Papers will be vetted by Turnitin. You will be able to view your Turnitin originality score and modify your paper if your score is it is low (green is good all other colors are not).
  • Submit a readable critique that is proof-read and edited. I highly suggest creating it in a Word Doc then pasting into the Discussion #2 "reply" field to avoid losing your work and to more easily edit.
  • Meet the length requirement of at least 500 words but no longer than 1,000 words
  • Include a word count of your critique at the end of your post

I love movies and look forward to reading your thoughts and ideas about "Silkwood" and "Concussion". So microwave some popcorn and have fun with this assignment!
