Rasmussen College Memento by Christopher Nolan Film Appreciation Paper

Overview

Editing in a movie often goes unnoticed. Acting, directing, and writing are all critical to the success of a film; however, it is the editing that shapes the narrative and helps the audience understand the story.

For this discussion, we screened two very different movies, “Momento” and “In the Mood of Love”. in both narrative and structure. Select one of the films and critique in two to three paragraphs its use of editing. Describe the film’s editing style, using examples as well as referencing topics discussed in this module’s lectures including:

  • How editing affected the film’s rhythm and pace
  • Editing techniques such as jump cuts, parallel cutting, math cuts, graphic match, etc.
  • How the editing choices impacted the theme and narrative of the film
