Ashford Battle of Algiers is interpreted Differently than in the Past Analysis

Overview

Q1: As mentioned in lecture, the film The Battle of Algiers was considered as an essential viewing by the US government. In what ways would this film be interpreted differently today than in the past?

Q2: In this week's lecture, we discussed how First and Third cinema have historically opposed each other and have served as sociopolitical foils, but we very briefly touched on the influence of Second Cinema and the ways in which its' shaped the economy of film and media. It seems to me that Second Cinema rejects Hollywood conventions of film, but does not provide the stark revolutionary rhetoric characteristic of Third Cinema. How does Second Cinema fit into the historical narrative of film, and does it's middle ground make it less influential than First and Third Cinema?
