1.Analyzing the film, Bride and Prejudice Christine Geraghty states that, “The barrier between the couple is not so much class as national Identity; …Lalita defends India, as well as her family, in the face of what she sees as the ignorance and scorn displayed by the American Darcy” (Geraghty 163-164). Discuss Lalita’s relationship with Darcy as a white, American man in India of the 2000s.

2.Analyzing the film Lagaan (Land Tax), Chandrima Chakraborty states, “Elizabeth, Captain Russell's sister, occupies a social category that is inescapably racialised as well as gendered.” (Chakraborty, 1883).

Discuss Elizabeth’s relationship with Bhuvan, her role as cricket coach, as a white woman in colonial India of the 1800s. How do her actions challenge rigid racial and gender boundaries?

3.Discussing the film My Name is Khan, Kathleen Erndl comments that Rizwan Khan’s journey to meet the President, “is a pilgrimage, a sacred journey to attain justice/redemption not only for himself and his family, but also for Muslims, Indians, and humanity as a whole.” (Erndl, 7). The motif of “repair anything” runs through Rizwan’s journey as he repairs things, and people’s lives. Through these kind acts, Rizwan attains justice by repairing the image of the Muslim and Islam, which is vilified as violent and threatening. With specific examples discuss how Rizwan’s pilgrimage brings a new perspective on Muslims in the U.S.
