GUIDELINES FOR WRITING AN ANALYTICAL VIDEO SUMMARY There are 6 Areas that should be discussed in an Analytical Video Summary:
1. Title of the Video.
2. Subject: What is the Subject/Topic of the Video? • Does the Video give a short description of its subject? If so, what does it say? • What objectives can you determine the Video has in presenting its subject?
3. Main Topics: What are the Main Topics raised and covered in the Video? List at least 4-5 topics you consider to be central in the video.
4. Discussion of Main Topics: Discuss the 4 (or 5) most important topics you listed in Main Topics. • These topics should be delineated in bold type. No separate paragraphs or spaces are necessary. • What information/data is given on these topics in the Video? • What positions does the Video take on these topics? • Were these positions well documented, presented, and properly supported? • Was there a notable bias in the presentation of these topics?
5. Conclusions: what conclusions were reached by the video presentation?
6. Your critique/conclusions: Give your own analysis, backed up by the content in the Video and other sources you know. Some questions to answer may include: • What are your own conclusions and/or analysis about the subject matter in the video? (be prepared to back them up) • How would you rate the Video’s overall presentation? • Critique the methods/approaches used in the Video to present its subject. • Did the Video make the impact that the subject required of it? In other words, did it do the subject justice? If not, where and how did it fail? • What did the Video tell you that you did not know? • Did the video change the way you think about the subject? If so, how so?
