Overview
For the final assignment, I would like you to pick any Asian American film of your choice. You can pick an older film or a newer one. I am leaving the choice open but email me if you want help picking a film. Follow these guidelines:
1. The film must be an Asian American film or a representation of Asian American experiences.
2. You must make use of the readings available on Canvas. To help you, I will place a list of readings under one source on Canvas - I am aware that the readings might be scattered right now. You must make use of a minimum of FIVE sources. Three must be from Canvas. The rest can be external sources. All external sources must be linked on the work cited page.
3. You are not permitted to use books. We did not read a book for this course and I do not want to see books used for the final assignment. You may use articles from online or from online through our library. Citations must be clear. I will cross check based on the links you send me.
4. Pick a broad theme like gender representation/sexual representation/cultural/racial representation etc and focus on it in your paper. For example if you chose to analyze The World of Suzie Wong, you might consider analyzing the representation of the Asian woman in Hollywood. You could also discuss the representation of the white woman in order to draw a contrast.
5. You can pick a film we have watched or a film of your own choice. You can also pick two films to compare/contrast or analyze using a theme.
6. The paper must be a minimum of 1000 words long. Papers less than 500 words will not receive a grade.
7. The assignment is divided into various steps. Step 1 - one paragraph film proposal ; Step 2 - 2-page draft; Step 3 - Rough Draft; Step 4 - PowerPoint presentation and discussion board; Step 5 - Final paper
8. Please remember that I do not want to see the use of translation tools. You will get better points writing in your own words than if you use translation tools and make use of terms which are complex and perhaps not discussed in class.
