Mississippi Masala

Overview

For this review I'd like you to consider the film as a representation of borders and living in-between. Mississippi Masalahas many characters and incidents which explore borders and an in-between life. When Mina and her family leave Uganda they (especially for Jay , the father,) are consigned to a life which is far from home. The entire Indian diaspora in Biloxi, Mississippi, seems to live in between racial borders (white, brown, black). They also appear to live in-between historical moments. Demetrius makes his living in-between racial borders (his business serves white and brown folks). Identify moments and cinematic techniques which speak to us about this in-between state. For example you might consider the use of light and color to depict memories of life in Uganda. Or the conversations that occur between the uncle and Demetrius when the uncle believes Demetrius might sue them. You can take a look at these links to help you write a strong review.
