Film Question

Overview

Research Op-Ed essay

Purpose: Offer readers an analysis of the cultural importance of an artifact

Task: Provide your opinion on what cultural value the film showcases and the impact of the value on society

Genre: An Op-Ed that could be published online

Audience: Your audience are people who may or may not have watched the film but would like opinions on the film

For this essay, you need to determine what cultural values an artifact supports – or fails to support, that you argue it should – and the impact of that value on viewers. Your worl should be based on this film:

Wonka (2023) - not any other versions I need it all about the 2023 verision because it's different from the other previous versions.

For instance, were I to analyze Cinderella, I might argue that it teaches children to pursue their dreams and believe in magic. I would then explain how that has made an impact on our society, noting the desire of “happily ever after” and the potential cost of that dream. I would use outside research to help support my argument and connect the story to cultural values, or even events.

Here are some parameters:

- Have an attention-grabbing title

- Provide a clear claim in the thesis

- Clearly identify 2+ cultural values presented in the artifact

- Clearly explain the connection of these values on society (Optional: - -how readers should feel about these values)

- Use language conventions that are appropriate for audience, purpose, and genre

- Use at least 2 outside sources ethically and effectively

- Connect each body paragraph to the thesis-level claim using subclaims
