Overview
Humanities Essay
Students must view one professional dance/music/theater/opera performances or visual arts/architecture exhibition and write a 500-word (There is a 30-word leeway for the essay to be a little shorter or longer, but no more than this.) essay on the event that the student attended. Because our class is a humanities class, students must attend fine arts (not applied arts or a commercial or pop art) events. Once you identify a live performance that you would like to attend for an essay or a museum exhibit, you must get it approved in advance before writing about it. You must also provide proof of attendance, such as a ticket stub or program book. Attach the proof of attendance to the essay. If you attend a free event and there is no ticket stub or program book, take a selfie of yourself at the event. The photo must make it clear where you took it.
Students must write about things experienced during the course of the semester. Students are restricted from writing about things experienced prior to the start of the semester.
More details about the specific requirements for essays are in the Guidelines for Written Papers, located in the Course Resources folder and is attached below.
