Film Final

INSTRUCTIONS

This assignment is designed to bring together creative development, industry research, and international market knowledge, while encouraging you to hone the skills necessary for successfully pitching projects in the global film and television industry.

Part 1: Pitch Deck and Sizzle Reel

For this part of the assignment, you will create a pitch deck (10 to 15 pages) for one of your project ideas. Your pitch deck should follow the guidelines provided in class sessions and readings, demonstrating a strong understanding of how to present your concept, vision, and strategy to industry professionals. Ensure the pitch deck includes key elements such as the project’s concept, target audience, visual style, character descriptions, story arc, and potential market appeal.

Additionally, you will design a poster for your project to include within the pitch deck. This poster should visually represent your project’s core themes and tone in a way that immediately captures attention. If using AI tools for the poster design, make sure the final product is polished and professional, reflecting your creative vision. Take time to refine the design through multiple iterations to achieve the highest quality result.

Finally, you will create a sizzle reel to visually showcase your concept. This reel should effectively communicate the mood, style, and overall vision of your project. If you choose to use AI for elements of the sizzle reel or supporting graphics for individual slides, ensure that you go through multiple iterations to refine the product. The final sizzle reel should be polished, professional, and aligned with your creative vision, suitable for presentation in an industry pitch meeting.

Part 2: Summary of Your Development Process

In two double-spaced pages, provide a reflective summary of your project’s development journey. Discuss what you set out to create, how the project evolved, and what you learned from the creative and strategic process. Be specific about what worked well, what didn’t work, and any major pivots or insights you gained along the way.

If you used AI tools at any stage—brainstorming, visualization, writing, editing, or workflow—please reflect on how you used AI, what it contributed, any limitations you encountered, and what you learned about integrating AI into professional development practices.

Part 3: Entertainment Industry Interview

For the second part of the assignment, you will conduct an interview with a film or television industry professional who has experience working in international markets. This is an opportunity to gain additional real-world insights into the global entertainment landscape and learn from someone who is actively navigating the challenges and opportunities of international productions and markets.

Your interview could explore topics such as: The interviewee's experience working within the global film or TV industry. Their perspectives on current industry trends, particularly related to international coproductions, global distribution strategies, or market-specific challenges. Any advice they have for creators looking to enter the global marketplace.

You may submit a transcript, summary, or recording of the interview through Canvas.

Be sure to reflect on the key takeaways from this conversation and how they might inform your approach to your own projects. (hey lets do a summary for this, my teacher said we can use a film student. I have a friend at USC that is a film major. So, lets pretend we interviewed her and summarize it)

Part 4: International Market Recap and Next Steps

In this section, you will summarize what you have learned about international markets from your research, our class sessions, and your interview. Discuss how this knowledge applies to the project for which you created your pitch deck and sizzle reel.

Consider the following in your recap: What specific market or markets would be ideal for your project? How would your project appeal to international audiences, and what steps would you take to ensure its success in global markets? Are there specific cultural, regional, or industry-specific factors you need to consider when positioning your project for the international market?

Additionally, outline the next steps you believe are appropriate for advancing your project toward production or further development.

– Do you plan to produce it yourself?

– Do you intend to pitch it, and if so, to whom or where?

– Are you seeking collaborators, mentors, or industry partners?

– What further development (rewriting, budget prep, world-building, etc.) do you envision?

Also consider what additional work needs to be done in areas like securing financing, building partnerships, or refining the creative elements to better suit your project.

(hey so i dont plan on doing anything with this project i just want to submit it)

Submission Guidelines:

Part 1: Submit your pitch deck (10 to 15 pages) and sizzle reel to Canvas.

Part 2: Submit your Summary (2 pages)

Part 3: Submit the transcript, summary, or recording of your interview to Canvas.

Part 4: Submit a 1 to 2-page international market recap and outline your next steps for your project.
