Overview
I need help developing two connected assignments for my Emerging Formats class, and I want both to stay under the same core idea inspired by Journey to the West.
The main story line should be a web series, and this web show should be the central narrative foundation of the entire project. The title is The Westbound Chronicles, which is a modern reimagining of Journey to the West as a cinematic fantasy web series for today’s digital audiences. The web show should tell the core journey, character arcs, emotional conflicts, and mythology worldbuilding.
The first assignment is a one-page pitch for this web show, while also showing how it can naturally expand into short videos, game-related content, social media character storytelling, animation, and future AR/VR interactive experiences. This version should highlight my personal brand as a filmmaker interested in mythology, cinematic storytelling, gaming culture, and transmedia worldbuilding, while also reflecting my Chinese cultural background.
The second assignment is the final pitch presentation, which should expand this same web-show-based idea into a larger Marvel-style transmedia franchise rooted in Chinese mythology. The web series remains the main story spine, while games, social media, and immersive technology become supporting extensions of the same story world. Please make both assignments feel connected, so the one-page pitch clearly feels like the early development version of the final larger pitch package.
