Overview
Focus this week's analysis on comparing the themes, conflict(s), and main characters in two of the short stories. Select from the following pairings:
- "A&P" and Invisible Man excerpt: What connections does each work allow us to make between emotions such as anger and frustration? What is the significance of the characters' relationship(s) to food?
- "Hills Like White Elephants" and Joy Luck Club excerpt: Examine the role of substances that alter the characters state of mind. Consider both female and male characters in your analysis. How does food and/or drink become important to the conflicts our protagonists face?
As always, explain your reasoning and provide textual support to fully develop the reading.
This journal entry should be a minimum of 2 pages (4 paragraphs) and a maximum of 4 pages (8 paragraphs) double-spaced.
