Minerals and Mining in Geology Discussion

Overview

The objective of this discussion post is to discuss mineral resources from source to sink.

Task

In Unit 3, you were tasked with identifying 10 minerals that are used for things in your daily life. For this discussion post, you will explore more about how that mineral is mined for that purpose.

You will choose a mineral, this can be one from your original 10, or you can select a new mineral. For this mineral, you will discuss

• the process for mining and extracting that mineral
• how the mineral is used, and
• explore any health hazards that may be associated with the mining or extraction process of the mineral.

Your initial post should be a minimum of 150 words and should provide a sufficient description of the mineral and how it is extracted, how it is used, and what happens to the mineral after it is used. You are expected to cite any sources that you use in your research. Please be sure you cite your sources correctly using either APA or MLA style. For assistance in citing sources correctly, please reference the Purdue OWL.
