Overview
Over the past decade there have been numerous earthquakes that have been noteworthy. We have explicitly discussed some of these in class. These include the: 2010 Haiti Earthquake 2010-2012 Christchurch NZ earthquake series 2010 Maule (Chile) Earthquake 2010-Present Oklahoma Earthquakes 2011 Virginia Earthquake 2011 Tohoku (Japan) Earthquake and Tsunami 2015 Kathmandu, Nepal Earthquake 2016 Amatrice, Italy Earthquake 2016 Kaikoura, NZ Earthquake 2019 Ridgecrest, CA Earthquake
Some of these earthquakes are quite large, others are important because of where they occurred or the damages they caused; but each has a story to tell.
For your report please select one of these events and write a short (~ 400 words) article (as for a newspaper or on-line magazine) that describes the event, what happened, and what makes it of particular interest - such things as: what is the current state of recovery from the event, what was unexpected about the event, how has it changed society. The report should be written in a style (and level) that might be appropriate for The Collegian (or other college level publication) — make it interesting for your fellow students. During class on Thursday, I will go over suggestions for the structure and content of the report. For now you should begin researching your chosen earthquake, and doing some writing.
