Overview
The research paper will review a specific topic in Geology and Earth Science using primary literature found on google scholar. The topic of the research paper can be on any subject related to earth science. The paper must include a cover sheet, abstract, introduction, background (e.g., geological setting if applicable), main body of paper, conclusions, references cited, and two to three figures with figure text. The cover sheet (with title and authors name), abstract, figures, and references cited should be separate from the three pages of text.

"I went over everyone's research proposal and I found that many people were picking subjects that were too broad or not related to Earth Science. You need to be more focused on the topic you choose. You cannot just pick 'rocks' or 'minerals' as your topic. You need to pick a specific subject that you can write about in details. For example, you can write about carbonate minerals and how they form or how salt deposits form. You cannot just write about the broad topic of minerals. This topic must also be related to the physical Earth. If you want to talk about biology, make sure it relates to deep time, fossils, and evolution. Finally, you need to make sure that your topic is not related to movies or pop culture. You will loose substantial points if your topic is not focused on a specific subject related to earth science."
For this assignment, I want the topic of the paper to be about Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii. What type of volcano it is, How it formed, how old it is, significance of it, last eruption, etc. Just a research paper about the volcano.
