Overview
These seven essay questions serve as the end module assessment. They are meant to be answered with details and evidence from this module and from the course. There are more questions than there were for the module 2 and module 4 end assessment essays. Another difference is that you are not submitting the essays in a document file outside of Canvas. You still must take care to have no typos, and to have a well thought out, thorough response to each question. I recommend completing the responses in a word document and then copying and pasting your responses into Canvas.
For some responses, you will be able to use the materials provided in the module. For some, you will have to do some additional research to gather enough data to answer the questions. Good luck!
You will be graded on the content of the response as well as the detail, thoroughness, and evidence included in the responses.
- What did you learn this module that was your biggest eye opener about climate change, mitigation, or sustainability
- List and explain three measures which can be used to mitigate the negative outcomes caused by climate change or act as a solution to climate change that were discussed in a video or a reading in module 5. For each of the three measures answer the following questions: What are the effects on the environment? What are the economic effects? What are the effects on society?
- Discuss the impact of climate change on service industries, such as tourism and hospitality, in NC (This was not included in the module anywhere. You will need to do additional research and make clear, evidence-based inferences to receive full credit). Here are some guiding questions to begin your response: Where will there be a positive economic impact? Where will there be a negative? How do we help the individuals that will be impacted the most? What can you as an individual do? What should the NC government’s role be?
- If we stopped all carbon emissions today, why would climate change not immediately stop? In other words, why would there be a lag between the end of carbon emissions and the global average temperature decreasing back to pre-industrial revolution levels? Explain in your own words based on your current understanding after completing the videos and readings.
- What three factors caused Helene to be particularly destructive in the mountains of WNC (one has to do with climate change/this module)? Explain why this is the case using the data you looked at in the Hurricane Helene in module 36.
- How would you communicate climate change ideas to convince a close friend or family member that they need to take major action, now? Include evidence about how we know humans are causing the climate crisis/warming over the past 140 year (in other words, how do we know humans have put CO2 into the atmosphere as opposed to it being normal variation that occurs on Earth?)
