PART 3 - COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Objective: Identify and describe community-based resources that support individuals with the assigned condition, focusing on services that are accessible to clients independent of clinical settings.
Purpose: Recreational therapists often assist clients in accessing community resources that can enhance their quality of life. This section encourages you to explore local, non-clinical services and organizations that individuals with your assigned condition can use independently for support and wellness.
INSTRUCTIONS
1.Research Community Resources:
- Research the specific region or area where the client in your case study resides (e.g., a particular city, state, or region).
- Find three community resources that support individuals with the assigned condition. These could include organizations, support groups, recreational programs, public services, non-profit organizations, or local initiatives that promote inclusion, wellness, and independence.
- Exclusions:
- Do not include hospitals or clinical services provided by physicians or health practitioners (e.g., hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private clinics).
- Focus on resources that can be independently accessed by the client outside of medical care. Examples might include:
- Support groups for people with specific conditions (e.g., stroke survivors, spinal cord injury networks)
- Community fitness or recreational programs (e.g., adaptive sports leagues, local recreation centers with inclusive programs)
- Non-profit organizations focused on empowerment, advocacy, or educational resources (e.g., community workshops, disability advocacy groups)
2. Describe the Resources:
- For each resource, provide the following details:
- Resource Name
- Description of Services: Explain the type of services or support the resource offers.
- How it Benefits the Client: Describe how this resource could specifically benefit someone with the assigned condition (e.g., social inclusion, physical wellness, mental health support).
- Contact Information: Include the contact information for each resource (e.g., phone number, website, email).
- Accessibility Details: Note any information related to the accessibility of the resource (e.g., transportation options, cost, availability for people with disabilities).
- Additional Information: Provide any other relevant details that might be important to clients in your case study.
3. Research and Cite Your Sources:
- Make sure the resources you select are based on your own research (e.g., official websites, local news sources, community centers).
- Cite any references used in APA format in your final project.
Submission Format:
- Integration with Part I and Part II:
- Continue building your workbook in the same format and style previously used
- Organization:
- List each resource clearly with it's name as a heading
- Use bullet points or short paragraphs or describe each resource
- Ensure that the resource descriptions are concise but informative
- Visuals:
- It is recommended to include relevant visuals, such as logos, photos of the facility, or maps if applicable
- References:
- Add your references to the existing reference section included at the end of your workbook.
