   Workplace violence is a persistent and underreported issue in inpatient psychiatric settings, where nurses experience high rates of physical and verbal aggression from patients. Despite the availability of reporting systems, many nurses choose not to report violent incidents due to fear of retaliation, lack of managerial follow-up, or a belief that reporting will not result in meaningful change. Leadership support plays a critical role in shaping the safety culture of psychiatric units and may significantly influence nurses’ likelihood of reporting violence.

   Compounding this issue, psychiatric nurses exposed to frequent violence without adequate support are at increased risk for burnout, emotional exhaustion, and turnover—threatening not only their well-being but also the quality of patient care. While individual factors such as resilience have been studied, there is a gap in understanding how perceived leadership support impacts both violence reporting and burnout levels in these high-stress environments. This study will explore the relationship between leadership support, workplace violence reporting, and burnout among inpatient psychiatric nurses to inform leadership practices that foster safer, more supportive environments.
