Appraisal of two studies

Overview

This assignment provides an opportunity to use a systematic procedure to appraise TWO qualitative studies pertinent to your problem of interest and your PICO question. Do NOT select a meta-synthesis review or integrative review. Please attach your articles as a separate file.

  1. State a qualitative PICO question first. This question should focus on patient and healthcare provider perceptions and experiences - a meaning-based question. (P-problem, I-issue of interest, Co-context)
  2. Use the Qualitative Literature Review Table -1.docx to summarize the qualitative articles. Use brief phrases to summarize (1 page). Please continue to be attentive to spelling and grammar; APA style is required for citations.
  3. Critically appraise the articles. Use the Johns Hopkins Nursing EBP Model Tool - see section II. Rate the level and quality of evidence using JHNEBP evidence leveling and quality ratings.A space for this rating is included in Appendix E. Please clearly include what information is most relevant to your problem of interest (e.g., findings that help answer your PICOT question) in the space provided. Please attach your appraisals as a separate file.
    • Appendix E 2022 Final_DV-5.docx
  4. Compose a narrative about the studies based on the Appendix. In particular, address the strengths and weaknesses of the study. The narrative should be no more than 1-2 pages.
  5. Document your search process using the Documentation.LitSearch.Guidelines -link Documentation LitSearch. Guidelines883 -1.docx

For example, to search for articles about"family support for postpartum depression " using PubMed, when you narrow down the search (strategy 1), there are only 4 articles. My suggestion is to do a broader search to get more general articles (strategy 2), and then screen article titles to identify those relevant to your clinical question. However, this would not be a concern if there are many qualitative articles in the field regarding your clinical question.
