In any healthcare job you will need to talk to patients, families, and coworkers who may not know the technical terms. This project helps you take what you have learned and break it down for others. Educational Toolkit Assignment: Simplifying U.S. Healthcare Concepts
Purpose
This assignment will help you practice explaining complex healthcare topics in simple, easy-to-understand ways for a non-expert audience. You will create an educational toolkit using Chapter 6 (required) and two additional chapters of your choice from Delivering Health Care in America (8th Ed.) by Shi & Singh.
Instructions
Step 1: Identify Your Target Audience
Select one of the following groups as the audience for your toolkit:
High school students
Community groups (general public)
Healthcare trainees (e.g., EMTs, CNAs)
Another audience of your choice (e.g., senior citizens, non-English speakers)
Important: You must clearly display your chosen target audience on one of your introductory slides (e.g., Slide 2).
Step 2: Select Your Chapters
Chapter 6: Health Services Financing (Mandatory) Focus on Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, private insurance, and managed care.
Choose 2 additional chapters from the textbook that interest you.
Step 3: Build Your Toolkit
Required Inclusion Criteria
For each of the 3 chapters, create a dedicated section that includes:
Simplified Key Concepts
Explain the chapter’s main ideas in audience-friendly language.
Real-World Example
Provide a practical application that connects to your audience’s needs.
Visual Aid
Include a diagram, chart, infographic, flowchart, or timeline.
Step 4: Add One Interactive Element
Create one interactive activity for your entire toolkit:

Scenario-based decision tool
Step 5: Submission Format & Length
Format: PowerPoint, Canva, or Kahoot.
Minimum Length: 12 slides
3 slides per chapter (summary, example, visual aid)
1 interactive element slide
Target audience shown on an introductory slide
Conclusion and references slides are recommended
