This module explores clinical uses of AI, but the overall focus of the module is on building your research and advocacy skills. This advocacy think tank discussion provides you with the opportunity to do your own research on emerging uses of AI in healthcare, to identify a problem that AI-powered systems may help to solve, and to propose an innovative, beneficial use of AI in clinical practice.
Instructions
- Review and research: Carefully review the learning materials provided in the module and review relevant materials from earlier modules, including the materials in Module 12 related to future hospitals and future healthcare systems. Then do some of your own research on emerging clinical uses of AI. One good place to begin your research is by exploring the articles found at How Health IT's Leading Innovators are Using AI Now, and Where They See It Going.
- Explain what is known about the issue you want to address using AI: 150-200 Words or equivalent video. Summarize what you understand to be the nature, extent, and causes of the problem or issue on which you have chosen to write. Also list the best 2-3 sources you have found on the issue, provide links to them, and write a 1-2 sentence explanation of what each source is or contributes to your understanding.
- Propose your AI-powered solution: 150-200 words or equivalent video. Propose an innovative solution to the clinical problem you want to address using AI. Your solution may include any combination of financial, technological, organizational, and cultural components that you feel are relevant.
- Discuss the social or political feasibility of your solution: 150-200 words or equivalent video. What support for or resistance to the use of your solution might you expect? What constituencies might support its use? What groups or constituencies might oppose its use?
- Discuss the potential impact of your solution: 150-200 words or equivalent video. What do you anticipate would happen if your solution were to be fully implemented? What impacts would you hope for? If there were harms or unintended consequences of implementing your solution, what might they be?
