Overview
Chapter 1 includes:
Introduction, Background, Significance, PICOT question, Theoretical Framework, and Conclusion.
- Describe why the topic is important to the population. Remember to cite international/national/local statistics
- Clearly describe why it is important for this work to be completed, what problems have been identified, and what the implications are.
- Describe the clinical problem/practice issue and include the population, setting/practice area, and data/references to support the origin, magnitude, and scope of the problem.
- Describe the theoretical framework chosen and how it relates to your problem/PICOT.

- Pick the top evidence sources
- At least 6 refereed articles/sources (Must be uploaded as separate attachments, please!)
- Include no more than one set of clinical guidelines, and/or one systematic/integrative review and/or one meta-analysis/-synthesis as part of these 6 sources
- Do NOT include studies on instrument/survey development and psychometrics
- Appraise each article and set of guidelines, level according to the JHNEBP evidence leveling and quality ratings. Submit the JHNEBP appraisal sheets. Appendix E 2022 Final_DV-7.docx
- Create an "evidence summary table" applicable to the PICO. (NOTE: This table includes all studies with abbreviated info.) Appendix G 2022 Final.docx
- Provide a conclusion: synthesize the key findings of these 6 articles and the strength of the evidence according to your appraisals. Evaluate the fit and feasibility of a practice change in your proposed setting. Be realistic - if there are poor-quality studies or an inadequate number of studies with consistent results, the PICOT may not be the future direction for your project. Appendix H 2022 Final_DV-1.docx
