Purpose
This assignment is intended to help you learn to apply the concepts of the pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of broad categories of medications.
Overview
Principles of pharmacotherapy change throughout the lifespan. In this discussion post, we will explore the following topics based on the first letter of your last name:
- If your last name starts with A – H, your topic is: The relationship between the infant, pediatric, adult, and the older adult patient regarding physiology and pharmacokinetics.
- If your last name starts with I – P, your topic is: Issues affecting medication adherence in the older adult.
- If your last name starts with Q – Z, your topic is: How initiation, ongoing assessment, and patient support of pharmacotherapy differs between the pediatric, adult, and the older adult populations.
Action Items
- Choose one topic for the initial post. Even though these topics are broad, limit your response to between 250 and 400 words. This is an exercise in concise writing. Feature in your post what you consider to be most important given your topic. Include at least three references published within the last five years in APA format.
- Read your peers’ posts. To read posts from the other discussion boards, you will first have to make a post in each one. Do so by simply making a post that says “Reading posts.” You will then be able to see others’ comments.
- Choose one peer who has not received a response, no matter the topic he or she wrote about. Either add a significant piece of information to their work that you think needs to be included and tell why, or identify what you find most important about their post and explain why. A minimum of one citation/reference is needed for the reply post.
