Overview
Purpose: For this week's assignment, students are asked to locate 3 articles related to their disease topic. Students are not required to have each of these types; they are only required to have 3 total articles.
Types of articles:
Case Report
Cross-Sectional Study
Case-Control Study
Cohort Study
Randomized Controlled Trial
Systematic Review or Meta-Analysis.
Students are asked to include the following:
1. The type of article selected. This can be the first sentence of your summary.
2. What is the overall purpose of the article (what is the author's purpose or thesis statement)? Please just summarize and cite.
3. Overall summary of the findings of the article.
4. What are the limitations of the article? (Please just summarize this section of the article).
5. How does this article contribute to your understanding of the disease?
One thing to consider is not only how the type of article impacts your ability to assess the disease, but also if it is able to provide strong evidence to recommend certain management strategies. For example, does a case report have strong enough evidence to recommend a new modality?
Students are asked to then write a two-paragraph summary of each of the articles, making sure to address the 5 required elements listed above. Please make sure to include citations and list the references at the end of each of your article summaries. Students will be able to use these articles for the Module Six Assignment as well.
Skills: This assignment allows you to practice the following skills that are essential to your success in this course and the degree advancement program (DAP).

Writing in the Profession Students will demonstrate the ability to write effectively in the profession. Elements would include the ability to organize an argument, support the argument with high-quality relevant evidence, deliver it with good sentence structure and grammar, and cite and reference appropriately.
Critical inquiry/evidence-based medicine Students will demonstrate the ability to formulate a clinical question, search the medical literature, and assess the collected literature for quality, relevance, and limitations.
Assignment requirements:
Please locate and summarize 3 articles that relate to your chosen disease.
Please locate articles that are less than 10 years old.
Each summary should be 2 paragraphs. Please use 12-point font and double-space your summaries.
Please cite in your summaries and list each of the references using APA formatting.
Please use the same formatting regarding citations and references that you used for the Module Three Article Summary Assignment.
