The Nutritional Services Department often hires employees that have mental challenges or minor disabilities. It's a win-win for both employee and employer but can bring unique situations to the workplace.
The Nutritional Services Manager comes to HR with a problem and needs advice. One of the employees, Doris, is mentally challenged. She works in the dish room cleaning trays. The manager has spoken to Doris several times about not taking food off the prep trays for patients and eating it. (Not food off the dirty trays but prepared food off the trays ready to go to the floors for patients.) Doris seems to understand and stops for a short period of time but then just can seem to help herself.
Meanwhile., 4 weeks ago the Manager had to terminate an employee for stealing food out of the freezer.
