Overview
Weekly Discussion Question
Over the past 30 to 40 years, we have seen an evolution of video games, such as how many people can play, how realistic the graphics are, where and whom you can play with, etc. During this same time period, electronic health records have been developing from early versions, which were mixed with paper systems, to almost complete electronic data systems. However, some EHR systems remain mixed (e.g., PDFs and faxed data). In addition, over the years, both video game and EHR systems have developed methods to exchange data in a meaningful way (interoperability).

Discussion question:
What is the current state of interoperability in video games versus EHRs and/or health information technology systems? There is obviously no one correct answer, but you do need to support your opinion with at least three referenced sources.
Helpful hint:
If you are not an avid gamer, you can research the current state of EHR vendor (e.g., platforms, applications, etc.) interoperability and how this relates to the HIMSS interoperability levels. There are a lot of great articles available.
