Written Assignment (1)

CR and DR Artifacts (Types, causes, and correction techniques)

Assignment Description:

Overview of different types of digital radiography (CR/DR) image artifacts, their type's effects,

and how to prevent /correct each artifact type.

Objectives:

By the end of reading and preparing this assignment, you should be able to:

1. 2. 3. Define the term artifact in the field of radiography.

Explain the effect of artifacts on the radiographic examination outcome

Recognize the CR and DR image artifacts sources, types, and methods to prevent their

occurrence.

Guidelines:

▪ The essay/written assignment is a piece of academic activity in which students examine the

literature they read in terms of particular questions or objectives and present their views in an

organized and analytical way.

▪ Ensure you understand the assignment objectives and know how to complete them.

▪ Break down the assignment into sections (it must be comprised of a General Introduction

(+ 10% of the assignment), Discussion (+ 80% of the assignment), and Conclusion (+ 10%

of the assignment). (NB: You can use tables in the discussion part to present data)

font, 1½ line spacing.

▪ Word count (reasonable count to cover the assigned objectives)

▪ All sources, whether academic books, journal articles, newspaper articles, material from the

Internet, etc., must be cited in the main text and referenced at the end of the assignment

Assignment 2 Case Report Guidelines

Purpose:

This case report assignment aims to enhance your understanding of MRI principles, image

interpretation skills, and the clinical application of MRI in diagnostic radiology. Analyzing a

real-world case will help you to correlate clinical history with MRI findings, identify normal and

abnormal anatomy, and interpret various MRI sequences.

Objectives:

Preparing this case report will help you to achieve the following objectives.

1. 2. 3. 4. To understand clinical history and its relevance to MRI examinations.

To Identify common MRI protocols for the selected case.

To recognize normal anatomy and common abnormal findings on MRI images.

To compare MRI findings to those from other imaging modalities.

General Guidelines

  • Use A4 paper, 12-point Times New Roman font, and 1.5 line spacing.
  • Use clear and concise language.
  • Include relevant images to illustrate the discussed findings.
  • Cite any references used for information or images.
  • Refer to the Blackboard system for the exact submission deadline.
  • Submissions must be through the Blackboard system.
  • Avoid plagiarism by expressing your own ideas and interpretations.
  • Case Report Guidelines

    1. Source

  • Case Selection: Choose an actual clinical case or a published case relevant to the course
  • content and demonstrating key MRI principles.

  • Ethical Considerations: Ensure that the case respects patient privacy and
  • confidentiality.2. Case Report

    2.1 Clinical History

  • Patient Information: Include the patient's age, sex, and relevant medical history.
  • Presenting Symptoms: Describe the patient's chief complaint and any associated
  • symptoms.

  • Referring Physician: Note the referring physician's name and the reason for the MRI
  • examination.

    2.2 Suspected Pathology

  • Differential Diagnosis: List the possible diagnoses based on the clinical history and
  • presenting symptoms.

  • Rationale for MRI: Explain why MRI is the imaging modality for this case.
  • 2.3 Imaging Protocol

  • Sequence Parameters: Specify the MRI sequences used (e.g., T1-weighted, T2-
  • weighted, T2-FLAIR, diffusion-weighted, etc.).

  • Coil Selection: Indicate the type of coil used (e.g., head, body, extremity).
  • Contrast Administration: If contrast was used, specify the type, dose, and timing.
  • 2.4 Image Interpretation

  • Normal Anatomy: Describe the regular appearance of relevant anatomical structures on
  • MRI images.

  • Abnormal Findings: Identify and compare any abnormal findings to normal anatomy.
  • 2.5 Other Imaging Modalities

  • Comparison: Discuss how MRI findings compare to other imaging modalities (e.g., CT,
  • ultrasound, X-ray).

  • Advantages of MRI: Highlight the unique advantages of MRI in diagnosing this pathology.
  • 2.6 Conclusion

  • Summary: Briefly summarize the key findings and conclusions from the case.
