our final week together, rather than a reflection, we will share what we learned from our white papers.
For your White Paper, you chose a specific healthcare issue to focus on and identified a specific population to discuss. Please share your issue and your population with your classmates. Provide an overview of the issue and what you think your classmates need to be aware of to understand how your chosen population is being impacted by this issue. Make sure to share a recommendation or action step that can be taken by health professionals or, perhaps, by each of us in this course with you.
Be creative and treat this as an opportunity to convince your classmates of just how important this issue is. You can showcase your project in a variety of ways: write a short abstract, create a short catchy video using a tool like Powtoons, create a 2 minute PSA using the Canvas audio recording tool, or even create an infographic. Because you will need time to prepare a compelling share for your classmates, this will not be due until Thursday night.
Application Question:
In this week’s assigned course materials, we are examining diversity and social justice in health care. The focus is on the health needs of diverse populations and the challenges of meeting these needs.
- In addition to your main required materials, you brought in one or more scholarly resources from your White Paper. Put yourself in the role of a healthcare leader (a position of your choosing based on your career interests). What force(s) operating in the healthcare delivery system do you see that might serve as barriers to culturally sensitive care and achieving social justice? How about opportunities?
Keep it brief and conversational. Integrate what you have learned from at least two assigned resources and one White Paper resource. Avoid essay writing, and use your own authentic voice.
- Now, let’s reflect on what we have learned over the past eight weeks through our assigned materials, discussions, and project. Where do you see the US in future (e.g. the next 1-5 years) terms of attaining a socially just healthcare system that is inclusive of diversity? Thinking about this course in general and this module in particular, have you identified specific action steps you can take to promote full and meaningful inclusion and access to health services?
